Fleets

Interlake Fleet No. 6
Formed in 1940, PLYC's Interlake Fleet No. 6 is a member of the Interlake Sailing Class Association. The Fleet has remained very active over the decades. (See our History page for more information.)

Commissioned by the Sandusky Sailing Club in 1933, Francis Sweisguth designed the 18' Interlake
as a sloop rigged sailing dinghy offering stability, performance and comfort. It is also relatively simple to rig and sail. A popular class among Midwest sailors, the Interlake singlehands well, and is usually raced by two to three people. It can also accommodate four or more on a relaxing day sail.
Snipe Fleet No. 110
PLYC's Snipe Fleet No. 110 was formed in 1939 and boasts a proud history in racing circles. (See our History page.)

The Snipe is one of the largest, oldest and most popular one-design classes in the world. Intending it for home building, William Crosby designed the Snipe in 1931 as a 15-1/2' racing dinghy with a hard chine hull and two-person capacity. It has long been a boat of choice for teaching novices the art of sailing and rigging, and for fine-tuning racing strategies and tactics among more experienced sailors. Of course, its contribution to recreational sailing nationwide and around the world cannot be overstated.
